• Karatantcheva Left Wimbledon

Alisa Kleybanova of Russia, WTA Rank 31, defeated Sesil Karatantcheva in the first round of the main draw of Wimbledon 6-2 7-5. Alisa broke the game of Sesil when the result was 2-2 and then took her service game. With another break Kleybanova made 5-2, and then won the set 6-2. In the second set Sesil reached to 2-0 but then Alisa quickly made it 2-2. Then Sesil again was leading to 3-2 and 4-3. Alisa recovered to 5-5 and broke the game of Sesil to 6-5 and then closed the set with 7-5.
Sesil Karatantcheva gains 60 WTA ranking points and 10'750 British Pounds from the prize money.

20-year-old Russian Alisa Kleybanova is the opponent of Sesil Karatantcheva in the opening round of the main draw of Wimbledon. Kleybanova is currently at position 26 at WTA Ranking, 23 being her top achievement. Last year she reached 4th round at Wimbledon. Karatantcheva and Kleybanova have played only once before back in 2005 in the second round Moscow where Sesil won 1-6 6-1 6-3.
Earlier this year Kleybanova lost in the first round at Roland Garros, reached the third round in Madrid, lost in the semi-final in Fes.
If successful Sesil will play either Karolina Sprem (Croatia) or Regina Kulikova (Russia).
The Bulgarian Tsvetana Pironkova starts against Jill Craybas of USA.
The representatives of Kazakhstan Galina Voskoboeva and yaroslava Shvedova start respectively against Na Li (China) and Monica Niculescu (Romania).

Karatantcheva succeeded to enter the main draw of the 3rd Grand Slam tournament of the year Wimbledon. In the last round of the qualifications Sesil defeated Abigail Spears of USA in straight sets 6-3 7-5. The main draw of the tournament will be announced on Friday, 19 June 2009.
Later on Thursday Sesil Karatantcheva with Tsvetana Pironkova of Bulgaria lost their main draw entry decisive match of the doubles tournament. They lost to Seed 4 of the qualifications Yuliana Fedak (Ukraine) / Mervana Jugic-Salkic (Bosna and Herzegovina) 2-6 3-6.

Sesil Karatantcheva is one win away from entering the main draw of the Championships in Wimbledon, Great Britain. Karatantcheva easily defeated Lilia Osterloh of USA 6-2 6-1.
Later today Sesil Karatantcheva and Tsvetana Pironkova will play their doubles first round match of the qualifications against Mathilde Johansson(France) - Ioana Raluca Olaru(Romania).
In the main draw entry decisive match Sesil Karatantcheva has to win Abigail Spears of USA, WTA rank 210.

After her second round match of the singles qualifications in Wimbledon Sesil Karatantcheva and Tsvetana Pironkova of Bulgaria will start in the qualificaions of the doubles tournament against Mathilde Johansson(France) - Ioana Raluca Olaru(Romania) who are seeded. If successful the pair of Bulgarians would need another win to enter the main draw.

Sesil Karatantcheva easily defeated the local player Jade Curtis (WTA Rank 338) in the first round of the qualifications of 3rd Grand Slam tournament of the year in Wimbledon, Great Britain.
In the second round Sesil will play Lilia Osterloh of USA. Earlier this year Sesil won the only match that the two have played so far - 6-3 7-5 for Sesil in the first round in Ponte Vedra Beach. Current WTA rank of 31-years-old Lilia is 211.

Sesil Kaaratantcheva had to withdraw from the tournament in Rome because of respiratory infection. She was replaced by the Russian Marina Shamayko.
• Karatantcheva Starts in the Qualifications in Rome

Sesil Karatantcheva will play Alberta Brianti of Italy in the first round of the of $2,000,000 Premier WTA tournament Internazionali BNL d'Italia in Rome on 1 May 2009. Karatantcheva and Brianti have not played before. The 29-year-old Brianti is currently at 121 position of the WTA rank, her best ranking 79 being back in March 2007.

Sania Mirza of India, WTA Rank 100, defeated Sesil Karatantcheva 6-4 6-4 in the first round of the 1 million USD WTA tournament in Charleston, USA. Sesil missed the chance to play against Venus Williams of USA in the second round. For her participation in the tournament she gains 1 ranking point and 2377 USD of the prize money.
