2nd round Stuttgart
I watched Sesil’s 2 round match in Stuttgart yesterday. This girl has the allure of a champion and has huge potential. Unfortunately, her play was inconsistent and erratic. In my opinion, she was superior most of the time in technique to her opponent, but she lost because of a clear lack of strategy and concentration and inexplicable frustration at every point lost.

I was horrified by the unprofessional behaviour of her “coach” who regularly motioned and made signs to her during play as well as clapped his hands whenever the public was applauding Sesil or her opponent (?!?). Clearly, this person is not a professional and his attitude looked more likely to ruin her rhythm and confuse her (and may be an attempt to make dependent on him in the long run (!)) rather than helping her build a consistent strategy and get her emotions under control. This guy could have helped her win this match by giving the appropriate advice when he was asked to do so instead he made her more unstable and confused.

Also, she looks like a person being under a lot of unnecessary) pressure. She looks insecure as if she would not deserve to be in this match which is inexplicable.

Get a competent professional coach, Sesil, no matter what the (financial)cost, you deserve it and this is the only way you will be able to develop your potential as a professional player. You are a talent, trust yourself and your capabilities, get appropriate professional coaching (not family related) and the world will be your oyster.

All best, Ema

Note on name spelling: Sesil Karatantcheva is Bulgarian. Bulgaria uses the Cyrillic alphabet. That's why the Bulgarian names are transliterated in Latin alphabet. Unfortunately there's no common transliteration table and what happens is that either every person decides how to transliterate his name or some journalists translitarate it. Very often the more common translitaration is different from the one written in the passport. And this is the case with the surname of Sesil. She's known as either Karatantcheva (used by WTA) or Karatancheva (on some Bulgarian English language media). Regardless of the transliteration it shoud be pronounced [ka:-ra:-'tan-che:-va:].

Her first name is transliterated as Sesil although some people might write it like Secile, Cecile, Secil. The way it should be prnounced is [se-'sil].

In Bulgarian language her name is Сесил Каратанчева. In Russian language her name is written Сесиль Каратанчева.
